Rupert Cherry (Collinson 1923-26),entered journalism as a district reporter in Gloucestershire including 21 years on the Gloucester Citizen before joining the sports news desk of the News Chronicle in 1950. When the paper closed ten years later he moved to The Daily Telegraph as a sports sub editor while in the winter months reporting on rugby.
He retired in 1974, but continued to file for the paper as a freelance for a further 11 seasons. He was chairman of the Rugby Union Writers’ Club from 1975 to 1978 and president for seven years.
He died on December 8, 2009
