Michael Lidwell (Murray 1955-1960)

I am sad to announce the death of my elder brother, Michael Lidwell on 25th March 2026 in Glasgow.

He was at Mill Hill from 1955 -1960. Also Murray, and think we overlapped for a couple of terms.

Here’s his ‘Valete' entry from the March 1960 school magazine. As you’ll see he was quite a sportsman!

After graduating he studied for an MSc at Imperial College before becoming an optical instrument scientist with Barr and Stroud latterly Pilkingtons, based in Glasgow. In addition to his extensive work he was an active mountain walker/runner (completed all the Munros) and was a sailing club member on the Clyde. He married and is survived by his wife, Naomi, and his four children.
