Ivor Roberts (Burton Bank 1981 - 1986)
We are sad to inform you of the passing of Ivor Roberts on September 25th 2018 in Bangkok after a long battle initially with cancer and more recently with severe heart problems.
Ivor went to Mill Hill in 1981 to 1986 and was a boarder in Burton Bank, he enjoyed his time there where he played in the school orchestra, had an exchange period in a French school and made many friends.
After school he worked briefly in insurance and at the age of 21 he went to Australia and returned three and a half years later after a brief spell living in New Zealand.
Not long after heading back to the UK he was diagnosed with cancer which he battled bravely for three and a half years without being able to work or lead a normal life. St. Bart’s hospital looked after him and he survived only because of the tremendous skill and help of the medical staff.
Thereafter he returned to work in insurance but decided to move to Thailand which he liked and had previously visited often from Australia.
Initially he lived in Koh Tao and was involved in diving but then moved to Chumpon on the mainland where he established several small businesses including the Farang Bar. Whilst based in Chumpon he visited us occasionally at our home in Perth, Australia.
He became seriously ill about three years ago and struggled to have a reasonable quality of life. He spent much of the last year in hospital in Bangkok where he eventually passed away. He had recently bought a villa in Koh Samui.
