Philip Caine (MHS Master 1966-67)

Dear Old Millhillian,

Former Master Philip Caine died on 12th December 2024.  Although he only spent a year teaching at Mill Hill School in 1966-7, it was a happy one in which he made many lasting friends among the staff and relished the challenges of teaching not only his academic subject, Mathematics, but also some Physics and Music.

Born and educated in the Isle of Man, Philip won an open exhibition in Mathematics to Corpus Christi College, Cambridge where he studied from 1962-66 before moving to London to take up his first job at the School.  Although he moved on into academic research and then The City, he retained lifelong links through the Old Millhillians and greatly enjoyed their membership of the National Liberal Club for social gatherings.  In 1995, he and his wife chose to send their daughter Eleanor to join the first intake of the new co-educational Pre-Prep (now Grimsdell) under the redoubtable leadership of Pauline Mills and Trupti Weeks so the school was a special place for his whole family.

Our thoughts are with his family and friends.
