Tom M Rothery (Murray 1946-51)

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Tom M Rothery.

Tom was born just East of The City in Jan 1933 and his early childhood was spent in Bushey and Stanmore where his father was a doctor. He attended Mill Hill as a day boy in Murray House and became Senior Prefect in his final year.

Six weeks after leaving Mill Hill he was called up for National Service and was later commissioned into The 1st Battalion of The Duke of Wellington’s Regiment. He served for nine months in The Korean War, some of which was spent on the front line.

After ‘demob' Tom played some rugby for the OMs but moved for a while to work in Wales. On returning there in 1960 he met Joanna Wills, whose family had a long association with Mill Hill. They were married in 1961 and OM Stuart Hibberdine (50-55) was the best man.

He lived in Sharnbrook Beds and latterly in Easton, then Earl Soham in Suffolk. Tom initially worked for a subsidiary of Unilever and in 1963  joined Munton & Fison, Maltsters where for the final 10 years he was Sales Director until his retirement in 1993. He also served as National Chairman of The Allied Brewery Traders Association.

He died after a long period in a nursing home on the 13th July.

Our thoughts are with his family.
