Dear Friends (and New Friends) of the East Anglia Meeting,
please join us this year to enjoy the surroundings, the conviviality and excellent buffet lunch at Trinity College, preceded by a visit to the special place that is Kettle’s Yard.
Now part of the University of Cambridge, but previously the home of Jim and Helen Ede from 1957 to 1973, Kettle’s Yard is a veritable Aladdin’s cave of art, ceramics, furniture, textiles, and natural objects, displayed in a personal and artistic manner, reflecting the tastes of the Edes and a particular artistic period.
The plan is that those wishing to include this visit in the Meeting should convene at Kettle’s Yard by 11.00am ready to join one of the two ‘private’ tours we have booked for our group at 11.15 and 11.30. There is a fee of £16.80 per person for viewing the house in these small numbers, while access to to the facility as a whole is free.
This includes the café, the shop and the integrated gallery, showing in May this year an exhibition entitled ‘Here is a Gale Warning: Art, Crisis and Survival’. We anticipate that by 12.45pm, if not sooner, we should be ready to set off for the 10 minutes walk to Trinity College for drinks, socialising and lunch, after which our President, Graham Chase, will give a report on the Club and his year in office to date.
It is important to note that parking close to Kettle’s Yard is limited and unpredictable. It is suggested therefore that we should use the Madingley Road Park and Ride, accessed a few minutes from the M11, and take the bus for the 10 mins journey to the stop closest to Kettle’s Yard, about 5 minutes walk away. The same Park and Ride service can deliver us back to our vehicles at the end of the day.
For those not wishing to visit Kettle’s Yard, please go direct to the Alhusen Room at Trinity College by 12.30-12.45pm. We shall meet you there. refreshments will await you.
To register and pay, simply click on the link and by Tuesday 6th May please.
